Depression or Postpartum Depression (Ppd)

We all are aware of the term ‘Depression’ means a serious medical illness. It affects negatively how we respond to the situation and faces a lot of issues like loss of interest, and losing appetite, etc. It causes a feeling of sadness for a long period if untreated well.

But are we aware of “postpartum depression (PPD)”? Postpartum means the time after childbirth. This mostly occurs in a new mother just after giving childbirth. There are so many hormonal changes going on in a women’s body that take time to settle.

Having a newborn can be overwhelmed, but it is stressful too. No matter how much you’re excited for the moment to laugh and to make a bond with the baby, they demand a lot of attention. Considering the sleep deprivation, extra responsibilities, back pain, and mood swings, etc. New mothers are mostly on roller coaster rides. They forget to give some time to themselves, which develops the risk of postpartum depression if not treated well.

There are a few delivery days when a mother cannot cope up with the pressure of handling the newborn. There is a weakness in her she cannot manage. A mother might not feel as normal as she feels otherwise. She might feel irritable because of the breastfeeding issues or the pressure caused by the family or any relatives, etc.

During earlier days, a mother also faces issues like insomnia, losing appetite and, baby blues, etc. In this way, she might lose her confidence as well because of the excess weight gain just after the delivery. She needs someone to listen to her but all are guiding her during that stage which is developing postpartum depression.

What're the ways to overcome it?

  • ·        Exercise
  • ·        Make time to rest – practice meditation, do deep breathing
  • ·        Examine your breastfeeding – talk to a lactation consultant
  • ·        Confront her
  • ·        Maintain a healthy diet
  • ·        Take help from others

This mild depression mostly stays a minimum for 1 month and can be exceeded for a long time if not treated well. It becomes the duty of a mother too, not to hide anything from her husband/family members and vice versa. A husband/family member plays the best role here, where they can take care of the baby while the mother is sleeping. So, she can sleep peacefully and wake up fresh.

Blessings on the Way

B. Blessings

One must know these three alarming stages before the delivery:

  1. Water breaking
  2. A bloody mucus discharge
  3. Labor Pain Contraction

It was 09:00 pm on 8th Feb 2019. The pain was not much as it should be after getting a lot of high-level doses of injections. When the gynecologist finally asked us to wait for one hour more and if the pain is not there. The team would go for a c-section. The head of the baby wasn’t in the right position and was not attempting to come out. The doctor instructed us clearly that it could be risky for the baby if we waited for more than an hour. Because the water was leaking and it could be risky for the baby.

We had less time to decide. After some time, we all went for C-section. I wasn’t able to bear the minor pain when it started.

I felt overwhelmed. After a moment, the baby met her father and the grandparents. It thrilled them with a lot of emotions. I had tears of joy when first; I saw my little princess. Aww! She looked just like me. How the soul has grown properly inside the womb and has come out properly with a healthy body. They took her to the Incubator, where babies are under proper observation.

I always heard the statement, “Blessed are the ones whose first child is a daughter”. I never believed in this because I am also a first-child to my parents, but I always thought of having an elder brother who could guide me to certain things. But I was wrong. I believed in the statement when my first kid is a daughter only.

Yes! It’s rightly said by someone that it’s not about the gender of the baby. Both are equally important and have their role in a parent's life. It’s not about the boy or girl every time, but it’s about a child who should be born healthy. Ask the parents who’re blessed with two daughters in their life. As we all are aware of how our mind is when we talk about genders. Over 70% want their first child as a boy. I am not criticizing anyone who thinks that way.

Here, the primary motive to convey my message is, let us understand it via an example. In the USA, they reveal the gender of the baby after 3 months. And soon-to-be-parents feel blessed to have a baby. But, in India, this is not the case.

Not all Indian parents think the same way. There are a few parents who appreciate and welcome the first child as a girl happily. We as parents need to assure that our girls are not less than boys, even they are much better.

Arti is a voracious reader and thinks that the whole world starts and ends with books. She has done her MBA in Marketing. Her hobbies are reading, writing, and observing small, sweet moments of nature.

About the book:

In this upcoming rainy season, we’ve come up with this wonderful poetic book “OF RAINS AND MORE”. I'm presenting you the author, Ms. Arti p. who has written 55 verses of poetry which are mainly inspired by rains and followed by the day-to-day emotions of our life. After all these poetries, there will not be any beautiful emotion untouched. As the author’s close observation has recognized those emotions. Her powerful skill of writing has made these poetries lively.

It seems like the author loves and enjoys “the beauty of the rain”. The emotions we feel during the monsoon season. The author has expressed that almost all the festivities occur during the rainy season. As we know, for lovers, the rain makes their long drives romantic. For kids, it is all about dancing in the rain. For book lovers; it's a date with the book and a cup of coffee.

The author has penned down each poetry with a brilliant observation. The author had observed and expressed every emotion of her life in this poetic book. She has expressed her feelings as the perfect verses. The author has used Hindi words like “Vahana” for goddess Lakshmi and the “Varsha Ritu” means the rainy season that makes the poetries deeper.

Who is the book for?

  • Kids, youngsters, and the elders can read it.

  • Highly recommended for lovers who love rains.

  • For all the poetry lovers.

You can pick any poetry randomly and start reading it. I loved the whole feel of the book. The writing style, font size, and font style make the book easy to read.

You’ll be able to relate your life observations with the verses of this book.

The “book-cover” is a treat to the eyes. I appreciate the beauty of the book cover. It reminds me of the rainy season when I am sitting on my balcony and gossiping with the love of my life with a cup of tea and fritters.

There’s nothing in this book which you can’t relate to auspicious occasions of the year like Raksha Bandhan. It relates a few other poems to Heaven, Teacher’s day, and Lockdown, etc. This is one of the best poetry books I have come across.
